Backup power generator from the former hospital building donated to Ukraine

04.02.2026 hrs 16:51

As part of the renovation of the former hospital building within the Kaskia well-being district, the hospital’s previous backup power generator (80 kVA) has been given a new purpose. The fully functional generator will be put to use and donated to Ukraine, where there is an urgent need for reliable energy solutions.

The donation is part of the Power to Ukraine 2026 campaign, initiated by the Ukrainian Embassy in Finland together with the volunteer organisation Caravan to Ukraine. The campaign aims to deliver backup power and emergency heating to war-affected areas.

The project has been carried out in cooperation between the foundations behind the Kaskia project and the main contractor, Lujatalo Oy. Lujatalo has been responsible for the technical arrangements required to dismantle and safely remove the generator from the hospital’s basement. Transport to Ukraine is handled by the volunteer organisation Caravan to Ukraine.

Backup power generators are used to keep hospitals, schools and other essential public services operating during power outages.
